Your donations to Concordia Gospel Outreach allowed us to partner with Elfie Eberle and Orphan Grain Train to send books to Liberia, where more than 5,000 children received a Gospel-centered book to call their very own.

But when books get sent overseas with missionaries to those who don’t know Jesus, they get more than just a bunch of pieces of paper bound together with glue.

Because of you, 5,000 children in rural Liberia received their very first book.

Most of the children you know probably own a book or two—more likely, they probably have bookshelves packed full with books for Christmas, for bedtime, for Bible story time. Elsewhere in the world, however, many children don’t own any books.

So for these children in Liberia, to receive a book that is their very own at no cost is huge. To be able to have a book they can read on their own, in their homes, at their own pace is an invaluable blessing. Joe Boway, a missionary to Liberia, said that when the children received their book, “they clutched it to their hearts with glee.”

Because of you, 5,000 children in Liberia are learning to read.

None of these children has been to school, so they are learning to read for the first time thanks to the efforts of local missionaries who have worked to found Lutheran schools in the area.

When children get these books, they can return to them again and again, building their vocabulary and reading skills. And, because they can take the books home with them, they can continue learning outside of school.

Because of you, 5,000 children in Liberia are hearing the Gospel.

In the Western world, Christianity is somewhat of a given—that is, most people have at least heard of Jesus (whether or not they believe in Him). But in the jungles of Liberia, the name of Jesus isn’t known by many.

The books that were sent to Liberia are Gospel-centered, so each child was able to read about the saving work of Jesus while learning how to read. After learning about Jesus in school, they can take that message home and reinforce it with the book they read.

“Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.” (Luke 18:16)

Because of you, the families of 5,000 children in Liberia are hearing the Gospel.

Not only does each child receive a book that teaches them about Jesus, but each family of that child is then exposed to the Good News! As families read and learn together, more people are drawn to Christ through the saving work of the Holy Spirit working in hearts and lives.

Your gifts make this kind of spiritual and academic learning possible. Because of your generous donations, people’s lives were changed forever.

This Giving Tuesday, let’s do the same thing. Let’s use our gifts to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with people we’ve never met in places we’ve never been.

Most of the gifts we receive are seemingly small—but they add up so we are able to send more than 5,000 books to children in need of the Gospel. No gift is insignificant.

Thank you for partnering with us to share the Gospel. We look forward to sending more books and Bibles to families around the world in the coming year.
